Distinguish geometry conflicts from scope conflicts. Two drawings may show different wall positions, or they may agree on the geometry but disagree about whether a finish or enclosure is included. Establish what each document represents

Read the title, status, date, revision and source of each document. Determine whether it describes existing conditions, a proposed design or completed work. A later design drawing can still contain unverified site information, while an older survey may remain relevant to an unchanged area.

Check the measurement references and units. Values may appear inconsistent because one drawing refers to a structural face and another to a finished face, or because they describe different extents. Request a targeted recheck

If the sources cannot be reconciled from their context, identify the precise information required from the site. State the location, endpoints, finish condition and related photographs needed. A targeted request is more useful than asking someone to “measure everything again.”

Ask the responsible participant to record the method, date and any limitations of the recheck. If the final finish is not installed, the result may confirm the present condition while leaving the future interface unresolved. The response should not appear more complete than the observation supports.

Do not average competing dimensions or choose the smaller value as a universal precaution. Either approach can create an unsupported production input. The appropriate response depends on the actual cause of the discrepancy and the design relationship being resolved.

Compare a local hold with a wider hold

Some conflicts affect a clearly independent fixture detail. The team may be able to continue unrelated work while keeping that detail conditional. Other conflicts affect a shared reference, finish or interface across several items. In those cases, a wider review may be necessary.

Ask the supplier and designer to identify the dependency rather than assuming the smallest visible area defines the full effect. A local dimension change can influence alignment across a run, while a visually prominent discrepancy may concern only a removable graphic component.

Record the agreed boundary of any work allowed to continue. Identify items and revisions, and state the unresolved issue they are independent of. This gives the buyer a practical way to maintain progress without misrepresenting the entire package as resolved.

Work through a storefront dimension conflict

Consider a hypothetical toy retailer whose fixture supplier receives a landlord plan and a later designer plan. The two show different usable lengths beside the storefront. The supplier's proposed display run relies on that length, so the conflict affects the end condition of the cabinet arrangement.

The buyer creates a conflict entry and compares the references. The landlord plan describes an earlier unit condition, while the designer plan includes proposed lining work. However, the record does not yet establish the final finished dimension. The team therefore avoids treating either number as confirmed solely because one document is newer.

A targeted site and design follow-up identifies the current condition and the intended finished interface. The responsible contributors provide their results with the applicable references. The fixture designer then revises the affected arrangement and records which production drawing now contains the resolved information.

The register closes only after that incorporation is checked. Unrelated fixture items remain on their agreed status, while any shared alignment implications are reviewed explicitly. Communicate the resolution as a complete instruction

Check whether the disputed information appears in more than one place. A wall dimension may be shown on a general plan, a fixture elevation and a quotation sketch. Updating only one of them leaves another route by which the old value can return. The coordinator should identify the affected documents and ask their owners to incorporate the same resolved basis. This does not mean every document must repeat every detail; each should reference the applicable source clearly enough that the supplier can identify which information governs the specific interface under discussion.

A useful resolution states what changed, which source supports it and which fixture revision is affected. Include the updated document rather than relying on a message such as “use the latest plan.” The recipient should be able to identify the exact information without guessing which attachment was intended.
